Along the way to the restaurant, Doug told us about secret bakeries in Rome. Apparently late at night, like 2 or 3 in the morning, you will smell a distinct scent wafting in the air. If you follow this fresh smell of pastries you will arrive at a bakery that looks closed. Once outside the door, you knock and someone will come out peering both ways down the street to make sure the coast is clear. After taking your euro, they close the door. Soon after, they bring a fresh right out of the oven with Nutella, jelly, or some kind of cream in it. This whole drug deal situation happens since it is illegal to sell at that time of day when the bakeries are baking all the goods that they will sell to the shops for the day.
